Hardship funding

Extra funding is available for students who are experiencing financial difficulty as a result of their circumstances.

Details of the funds available and who is eligible to make an application are listed below.

Hardship funds

Student Support Fund (undergraduate)

University fund available to all 'Home' undergraduate and PGCE students who are experiencing financial hardship.

Student Support Fund (postgraduate)

University fund available to all postgraduate students who are experiencing financial hardship.

DSA Contribution Fund

University fund available to Disabled Students Allowance recipients who are eligible to reclaim their upfront costs.

International Student Hardship Fund

University fund for international students, who are experiencing unanticipated financial problems.

Islands and EU Student Support Fund

A small fund open to EU and Channel Islands / Isle of Man students studying at any level, who are experiencing unanticipated financial problems.

Emergency funds

These funding options are for fully enrolled students who are experiencing temporary or short term financial challenges such as waiting to receive the first instalment of Maintenance Loan, travel costs for local placement or employment, or something else. They can be used in conjunction with a claim for the Student Support Fund.

Please contact the Student Advice Service to discuss which option best suits your needs and for any help and support with your finances.

Bridging Loan

Short-term loan designed to assist all students who are in a temporary crisis, to cover only the cost of food and travel to your site of study.

Unicard credits

Non repayable one off payments for students in short term financial difficulty credited to the unicard for food and drink on campus.

Bus tickets

Single use one day bus tickets to help students in a temporary crisis, to cover the cost of daily travel to your site of study, employment or local placement.
