Following a fully booked event in December, our public lecture series continues this spring with inspiring and educational talks from leading academics.

Delivered by newly appointed professors, the lectures will delve into the pioneering research 麻豆果冻传媒 academics are carrying out to address some of the biggest challenges facing people and communities here in 麻豆果冻传媒, across the UK and around the world.
The lectures are free to attend, and open to staff, students and the general public – but booking is essential. A reception follows each lecture where conversations can continue informally with people from across the university and the wider community.
What do end-of-life care, discarded photographs and tuberculosis have in common? They are just three of the fascinating topics tackled in our upcoming inaugural lecture series.
The 2025 programme kicks off on Wednesday 19 February when Shahaduz Zaman, Professor of Medical Anthropology and Global Health, will explore notions of a ‘good death’, how opinions and practices around the world differ, and will advocate for diverse, culturally grounded approaches to dying and end-of-life care.
On Wednesday 5 March 2025, Professor of Visual and Material Culture Annebella Pollen delves into historic images and objects and the stories they tell about the past and questions what gets wasted and saved, what gets culturally consecrated and what gets overlooked. Join her as she examines personal collections and institutional archives that prompt us to consider fresh perspectives on the present day.
Simon Waddell, Professor of Microbial Pathogenesis, will share his research on Wednesday 19 March into the battle against tuberculosis, how resistance to antimicrobial drugs emerges and how this can inform the development of new treatments.
A further programme of lectures is planned for the summer term, with bookings opening in March 2025.
