Many thanks to Peter Mercer (Building Construction 1958) for sharing this. He would love to hear from any of the lads in the photo.
"The picture was taken at our training ground at Patcham Secondary School during the 1950s but we had many competitions against a number of Sussex clubs all of which were larger than ourselves, but we had some good athletes and we covered most events very successfully. Tom Addy and John Ediele – both from Nigeria – were good sprinters and jumpers and coupled with John Quartermain and John Burchall, we won most sprints and relays. My closest friend was Alaister Tivey as we were both javelin throwers at county level. A number of us took part in the County AAA Championships at Withdean over the years. We were awarded our athletics colours which I still treasure.”
